Ampicillin is an Inhibitor of bacterial cell wall synthesis and inhibits crosslinking of peptidoglycan by binding and inactivating of transpeptidases. Its spectrum is against gram-negative bacteria.

Ampicillin is sensitive to inactivation by ß-lactamase and can be used as a resistance marker.

Ampicillin sodium dissolves well in water.

The antibiotic is inactivated by autoclaving and a solution should be sterilized by means of filtration.

Doxycycline is a bacteriostatic Tetracycline with antimicrobial activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The antibiotic binds reversibly to the 30S subunit of the ribosome, preventing the binding of aminoacyl transfer RNA and inhibiting protein synthesis and hence cell growth. Doxycycline is more active against most species compared to Tetracycline.

G-418 is a member of the large family of Aminoglycoside antibiotics and has a molecular structure almost like Gentamycin. The antibiotic is an irreversible inhibitor of protein synthesis. Due to its structure is capable of binding to both prokaryotic and eukaryotic ribosomes and inhibiting protein synthesis and generating errors in the transcription of the genetic code.

G-418 can by inactivated by NPTII or 3APH. The hydroxyl group present at the 3 position of G-418 is phosphorylated by NPTII. The resulting steriometric change of the molecular structure of the antibiotic prevents it from binding at its ribosome binding site.
